Albanese’s Wardrobe – All Division, No Joy

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese got an early Halloween shock when he was thrust into a cultural quandary at the end of October, after being photographed wearing the iconic “Unknown Pleasures” shirt by Joy Division. Normally a ubiquitous piece of post-punk apparel, his opponents chose to seize on the grim origins of the legendary band’s name to attack him. The Department of Homeland Security within the American government has been forced to withdraw a video it shared on some social media platforms, after a copyright violation notification over the music – “Friday I’m In Love” by The Cure, the award-winning smash hit and their top-rated track on Spotify.

Goth: The Oldest Youth Subculture

I made the jump to Bluesky sometime ago, but only recently have I suddenly noticed a surge in interactions. Almost universally good as well, a delightful change from some festering online hellholes I could mention.

“A Big Black Cloud Come!” – AI celebrations of a Bad Seeds anniversary

On this day forty years ago, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds released their second single ever, the harsh and relentless “Tupelo” from the second album, “The Firstborn is Dead”.

It’s classic early Bad Seeds, awash with biblical Armageddon and Americana by way of epic reimagining. It’s remained a mainstay of their live sets over four decades and in his missives to fans via the Red Hand Files, it’s clear Cave personally holds it in high regard. So how are we to interpret the AI-generated music video he has shared with fans on this anniversary?
