Celebrate! There are now two days to show your appreciation for the beautiful black cats in your life. The UK has National Black Cat Appreciation Day on 27 October (right before Halloween!) whilst over the pond the Americans celebrate Black Cat Appreciation Day on 17 August.
Please enjoy some carefully curated content containing our cuddly, curious cat comrades. Remember, according to figures black cats who desperately need homes are often overlooked at shelters, spending up to a week longer in care. If you can give a loving home to a needy cat, please consider a pitch-black puss!

If there’s one performer that purposefully embraces the finer feline style, it’s post-punk siren Siouxsie Sioux. In 1988 she was in a glorious photoshoot dressed as Bastet, the Egyptian Goddess of cats, magic and sex – all very relevant attributes for the goth scene!
Finally, I want to give thanks to my own little rescued home void, Minnaloushe. She’s already got the attitude and look down! Here’s hoping you all get to enjoy a Black Cat on this special day.

Kuro and Yami are my two black kitties. Well, Kuro is mine, and technically Yami is my dad’s. They are both rescue cats. Kuro was adopted from a shelter and him finding a home was compounded in difficulty by him being a feral kitten. He’s still not the most social cat, and woe betide the fool that tries to pick him up, but he’s been with us 9 years and is much loved. He follows me around at a distance, like a not-very-subtle assassin. Yami followed Kuro home one day and doesn’t understand why Kuro was not happy about this. Yami is two. At one point he was in a foster cattery, but ran off and got lost, then a bit later he was caught by a catch-neuter-release program for stray/feral cats, and then he wandered to my Dad’s door. Yami is a small furry idiot, but he’s *our* small furry idiot. Yami is very affectionate, to the point of being a bit of a limpet; that cat is clingy!
